HYALURONIC ACID INJECTIONS

In the last few decades, various synthetic forms of hyaluronic acid have been developed and used to correct disorders in the fields of rheumatology, ophthalmology, and wound repair. More recently, synthetic forms of hyaluronic acid are being manufactured for use in face augmentation.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in your body. High concentrations are found in soft connective tissues and in the fluid surrounding your eyes. It’s also in some cartilage and joint fluids, as well as skin tissue.

The same substance is often injected into the aching joints of people with arthritis to ease pain and provide extra cushioning.

Hyaluronic acid is not derived from animal sources.

When this gel is injected, it acts like an inflated cushion to support facial structures and tissues that may have lost volume or elasticity due to normal aging.

It also brings water to the surface of skin to keep it looking fresh and supple.

Hyaluronic acid is being widely used for :

  • wrinkles
  • fine lines
  • contour deformities
  • volumetric deficiencies of face
  • cheeks
  • lips associated with aging
  • developmental anomalies
  • Certain diseases.

Hyaluronic Acid is usually injected when the patient is in the office.

The areas of the skin to be treated are first coated with a topical anaesthetic, which is usually sufficient for the patient’s comfort.

Hyaluronic acid is a hydrophilic agent, which means that it attracts water much like a sponge. This expansion contributes to the final volume that is achieved. Therefore, underfilling is necessary. Overfilling can lead to bumps and irregularities which, although rare, can represent a small, temporary cosmetic problem.

For many, the results can last up to six months. It is especially effective for the nasolabial folds, lip augmentation, and areas of contour deformities. It is also an ideal adjunct for Botox treatment and is frequently used in conjunction with Botox to correct lines and creases that persist.

BENEFITS:

  • A natural substance that does not require pretesting for allergic reactions
  • Injections can last for approximately six months
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Very few side effects
  • Can apply makeup immediately and return to normal activities
  • Bruising and swelling can occur
  • Small bumps are infrequently visible or are palpable
